Jonathan Grekstas is this year’s recipient of the second annual Michael S. Curwin Memorial Scholarship for a student at the Rutgers University School of Law, Gloucester County Prosecutor, Charles A. Fiore announced on June 22, 2018.

The Curwin Scholarship provides a paid summer internship for a law student interested in pursuing a career as a prosecutor. Grekstas is serving an internship with the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.

The family of the late Michael S. Curwin, who served in the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office for 29 years, established a scholarship in his memory. Curwin was a 1980 graduate of the Rutgers School of Law in Camden, N.J.

At his retirement from the GCPO as First Assistant Prosecutor in 2014, Curwin had served longer than any assistant prosecutor in the history of the office. He passed away on October 31, 2015.

In announcing the scholarship recipient, Fiore called Michael Curwin a “phenomenal human being” and an “awesome prosecutor.”

Audrey Curwin, Michael’s wife of 23 years, retired from the GCPO as First Assistant Prosecutor in 2016 after 27 years in the office.

In presenting the scholarship, Ms. Curwin said her husband “was dedicated to justice and to victims, but he was also very dedicated to this [Gloucester County] office. She said it was gratifying to present the scholarship to someone who aspires to serve in the same office.

Mr. Curwin’s wife, children, Jillian and Ben, along with Ron and Eileen Curwin, Michael’s parents, and his brothers Jay, Gary and Steven, established the scholarship.

Felix Wurmbach was last year’s Michael S. Curwin Memorial Scholarship recipient.
