Don’t look now, but Gloucester City is about to host one of the biggest events the town has ever seen and it is for a great cause.
Neighbors United, a community serving non-profit, will host its first inaugural event, Not Your Mother’s Music Festival, at Proprietors Park on Saturday, June 23, 2018, from 10am to 10pm.
NYMMF is a FREE event to the public that combines celebrity appearances, two stages of non-stop music, professional BMX and skateboarding demonstrations, yoga, spiritual health and wellness, art and handcraft vendors, kid’s bounce amusements and workshops, fun and healthy food trucks, extreme sports vendors, a craft beer and wine garden, celebrity schooner sail, and to top it all off there will even be a 75-foot tall Ferris Wheel that is free to ride.
For children to enter the Run Amuck Kid Zone, and bounce all day for FREE, they must pick up a wristband from Brown’s Shoprite of Brooklawn. Wristbands will available from May 10th to June 22nd.
Drake Bell Headlines
Not Your Mother’s Music Festival has pulled musicians in from all over the country, the most notable of which is Drake Bell, Hollywood actor, best known for his starring role in the “Drake and Josh” Nickelodeon series. He is now a well-known pop music performer and has over 7.8 million Facebook followers.
But hurry because these passes are limited and are expected to sell out in a flash!
Also, on the bill is Scarlet Sails, a band from New York City whose drummer, Brian Viglione, is the current drummer for the Violent Femmes and the drummer for The Dresden Dolls.
There are many other notable acts set to take the stage, including The Trichomes from New Hampshire, Philadelphia favorites Bong Hits for Jesus, Alright Junior, and the one and only Kuf Knots. Some of the very best New Jersey artists will also be holding it down at NYMMF, with performances by Kid Felix, Suburban Sensi, Nalani & Sarina, Mums the Word, Jolly Jane & The Handymen, Sara James & Joey DiTullio, and The Age Ore.
Comedian, Andy Julia, is set to MC the event.
Special Guest Russell Newberry
Celebrity Russell Newberry, from the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch Series, will be making appearances at many of the festival’s activity locations throughout the day.
Celebrity Schooner Sail
If you wish to meet and speak with him in person, grab a ticket for the NYMMF celebrity sail, on board the Northwind Schooner from 1pm to 3pm. You will also catch him hanging out in the Not Your Mother’s Craft Beer and Wine Garden when he is not touring the park.
The only thing better than the festival is the cause itself. Proceeds from Not Your Mother’s Music Festival will go to purchase and remediate a building in town to use as a community center for children and teens to receive educational programming, meal services when school is not in session, and arts and music programming via two amazing non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations, Neighbors United and The Sara James Music Foundation.
Almost half of Gloucester City’s population (11,400) are children and 70% of these children receive free and reduced lunch at their schools.
During the winter and summer breaks these children and teens can potentially miss two meals a day and currently there is not an organization in town that is responsible for making sure they have access to healthy food when they are not in school. Neighbors United is stepping up to the proverbial plate, to take the necessary steps to ensure that no child goes hungry in Gloucester City.
This summer they are teaming up with local churches to offer fun summer programming and food services for children that are in need.
Not Your Mother’s Music Festival was produced to help Neighbors United open a kid friendly community center where children, teens, and families, will have access to not only food services but also for them to have a fun space to have family game nights, teen social events, professional music lessons (provided by The Sara James Music Foundation), and much more. Neighbors United has only one goal at heart, to improve the Gloucester City community as a whole.
Please join us as we make history in Gloucester City on June 23rd. Bring the entire family as there is certainly something for everyone.
Special thanks to Camden County, Gloucester City Special Events, Gloucester City Bars, Shoprite of Brooklawn, and to our many other sponsors who have made this event possible.
