Bellmawr Schools Receive Bronze Certification Designation From Sustainable Jersey For Schools

All three schools in the Bellmawr School District have received the Bronze level of certification in just their first year of participating in Sustainable Jersey For Schools.

The Bellmawr School District is honored to announce that all three of the district’s schools — Bell Oaks, Bellmawr Park and E.M. Burke, have received Bronze level of certification in just their first year of participating in Sustainable Jersey For Schools.

Sustainable Jersey certification is a prestigious designation.

According to Sustainable Jersey for Schools: “Bronze certification means a school has made a commitment to sustainability and succeeded in implementing significant first steps, while silver certification means a school has made significant progress in a number of categories toward sustainability and is a state-wide and national leader.”

In just eight short months, all three schools in the Bellmawr School District have achieved the Bronze designation by accomplishing certain requirements — including establishing a Green Team, participating in mini greenhouse gardening, holding a Green Fair, serving “Breakfast After the Bell,” and hosting a Walk to School Day.

Sustainable Jersey for Schools is a certification program for New Jersey public schools that want to go green, conserve resources, and take steps to create a brighter future, one school at a time. Launched in the fall of 2014, Sustainable Jersey For Schools is a nonprofit organization that provides tools, training and financial incentives to support and reward schools as they pursue sustainability programs.

Sustainable Jersey for Schools helps schools to pursue a balanced sustainability program one policy, program, or resource audit at a time.

There are a number of levels of certifications that schools can strive to achieve.

Schools accumulate points for taking actions in a variety of categories in the respective certification level. Along with attaining a certain number of points, a number of “priority actions” must be completed in order to qualify for certification.

As the district is about the begin the 2017-18 academic year, be on the lookout for future projects as there are plans to expand efforts throughout Bellmawr and we hope you will join us.
